Brisbane QCE tutoring

At Apollo Tuition our approach is simple, provide students explanations of concepts in easy to digest ways and apply these concepts effectively in order to achieve their highest possible grade ensuring that all students can easily navigate their path to their future, whether it be getting a QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education) or getting into a degree at their dream university.

To allow our tutors to achieve this, we utilize common techniques like teaching fundamental concepts and applying them to problems. However, we also provide techniques and resources that set us apart from most tutoring agencies.

Syllabus Comprehension

Each and every ATAR subject in year 11 and 12 provide comprehensive syllabuses that outline all fundamental concepts that are assessable in their formative assessments, internal assessments or external examinations. Understanding these syllabuses is a skill not often taught by teachers; however, it can provide students with a clear and concise form of study that can elevate their exam marks significantly.

For example, physics provides many confusing concepts in topics such as electromagnetism and special relativity, these are vast and confusing concepts that can prove difficult to study for. However, when analysing the syllabus, it provides clear outlines on what can and cannot be assessed. Given this our tutors heavily encourage analysing and comprehending syllabuses in order to make studying concise and productive in order to maximise marks.

ISMG Comprehension

An ISMG (Instrument Specific Marking Guide) is essentially a marking guide used by teachers when grading assessments in order to determine what criteria a student hits and therefore their overall mark. For a student to achieve maximum marks, they must first understand how a teacher would determine a paper worthy of maximum marks.

Given this our tutors teach students to analyse and interpret these ISMG’s in order to decipher how to achieve their highest possible grade. This is a focal point of our teaching and is often overlooked by teachers in high school when covering assessment items despite it being critical in the marking process.

External Examination and Internal Assessment Preparation

Our tutors are often young undergraduate or postgraduate university students who have graduated high school in recent years. Given this they are often well versed in the QCAA syllabus and assessment design.

Utilizing past external exams and example internal assessments, our tutors prepare students for their assessment through up to date and current resources as well as Apollo Tuitions own provided resources.

ATAR Guidance

Picking subjects for year 11 and 12 can be a daunting task. When it comes to picking subjects that are many aspects necessary to consider, these can include how a subject scales, its difficulty and content, whether it lends itself as prerequisite for a university degree, whether it provides a qualification and many more things.

Often being university students themselves, our tutors can provide high quality advice to help determine what subjects work best for students on whichever career path they choose to pursue.
